Kinja'd!!!

Today is the fifth anniversary of the post that started This Date in Aviation History. It began as a one-off article about the first flight of the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft, and gradually grew into the biweekly obsession of mine (though with a three month hiatus three years ago to prepare for an orchestra audition, which I won) that I continue to work on and hopefully improve to this date. To all of you who have read and commented (and corrected) my posts in the past five years, thank you. It’s been a great ride, and I’ve enjoyed every word of it. And though this sounds suspiciously like a good-bye post, I have no intention of stopping.

I was riveted to every aspect of the shuttle development. I was in science class the day that Columbia made the first landing. Our teacher stopped class and turned  on the TV so we could watch it. I still have the local front page newspaper article about the launch.

And thanks! I always enjoy our discussions about the posts.

Thanks, they’re great: keep ‘em  coming. Your dedication is an inspiration to all of us who don’t manage more than a few solid-content posts a year.

Well, it helps to be a stay-home dad who mostly works evenings. I have less time now that I’ve returned to teaching, but I’m refining old material, so there’s not as much as work as there was 4 years ago. I just wish I had more time to write aviation articles outside of this recurring series. I’ve got so many things in mind to write about but I just don’t seem to find as much time to create original content. I’ll get to it one of these days!

Thanks.

Part of the reason I continually came back to O ppo when I first started visiting. These are always interesting reads.

Very good Oppo, and takes me back to my days as a kid, reading all the history of aviation and airplanes o f the world books I could get my grubby little hands on. I sometimes have a little knowledge of what is posted, but I always learn more.

I always hope that somebody will learn something with these posts, I know I do. And I almost always learn something from the comments. Thanks for reading!
